Tigers' Norris says surgery a success, now cancer free

Daniel Norris is cancer-free.

10 days after announcing a diagnosis for thyroid cancer earlier in the season, the Tigers’ left-hander said in an Instagram post today that surgery to remove a malignant tumor in his thyroid went well and he is cancer-free.

“I just want to thank everyone for the thoughts & prayers,” Norris wrote in the caption of a photo that showed his surgical scar. “Surgery was successful & I am Cancer Free.”

Norris, 22, was diagnosed with the disease earlier in the season while pitching in the Blue Jays organization with Triple-A Buffalo. He was acquired from Toronto as the centerpiece of a three-prospect trade at the trade deadline.
