DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers shortstop Niko Goodrum left Wednesday's game after colliding with left fielder Christin Stewart as both players raced after a pop-up.
Stewart, who caught the ball in shallow left field, emerged unscathed. But Goodrum lay on the ground for several moments before eventually limping off the field under his own power.
The Tigers said Goodrum has a right quad contusion.
Shortstop Ronny Rodriguez entered the game as shortstop in the third inning.
Goodrum, 26, has started a game at every position except catcher and center field in 2018. He's hitting .237/.311/.432 in 457 plate appearances in his first full season in the big leagues.
