DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers announced last fall that they would join many Major League clubs in extending the protective netting behind home plate.
But it wasn't until Tuesday that Tigers general manager Al Avila got to test it out.
"I think you're going to love it," he told an audience at the Detroit Sports Media banquet on Wednesday. "It's very thin. It's kind of a greenish color so it blends in with the grass and background, so when you sit there it's almost transparent."
The Tigers haven't announced how far the netting will extend. Those details are still forthcoming, a team spokesman said.
