Detroit — The Tigers Saturday night steadfastly refused to accept the big innings that were graciously offered by the Chicago White Sox pitching staff.
Thanks to their own pitching staff, however, a big inning wasn’t necessary.
The Tigers scratched just enough offensively to even the series, beating the White Sox 3-1 at Comerica Park.
Lefty starter Tarik Skubal didn’t have his good fastball when he faced the White Sox last week in Chicago. So he beat them with his secondary pitches, primarily his change-up.
On Saturday, the heater was sizzling and that made the change-up even better.
