Tigers minor-league signings: Pete Kozma could compete for utility job

The Detroit Tigers have signed infielder Pete Kozma to a minor-league contract, adding another player who will compete for the team's vacant utility infielder spot in spring.

Chris Cotillo first reported the signing on Thursday.

Kozma, 29, spent the first five years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, who drafted him in the first round out of Owasso (Okla.) High School in 2007.

He played for the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers in 2017.

Kozma has been an everyday player only once in his career -- in 2013 -- but he has experience at all four infield positions and is considered a solid defensive shortstop.
