DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Mike Fiers left Wednesday's game after being drilled in the shin by a scorching come-backer.
Fiers pitched just two innings before being replaced by reliever Drew VerHagen.
Fiers was hit in the leg by a liner hit by Cincinnati Reds right fielder Mason Williams in the second inning. Fiers was checked out by head athletic trainer Doug Teter and remained in the game to finish the inning.
Fiers was nearly traded on Tuesday but remained with the Tigers after the expiration of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
