SAN DIEGO – It was a long six innings for Miguel Cabrera on Tuesday night.
He sat around inside the American League dugout, stayed loose, seemingly waiting an eternity to hit the field in the midsummer classic for a 10th time.
When he did, the pent-up energy was evident. He took the field at first base and threw the ball up to himself. He gave first base umpire Kerwin Danley a hug. He shook hands with rightfield umpire Dan Bellino.
He played two innings of defense before stepping to the plate for the first time, he struck out looking against former Tiger Fernando Rodney, the American League won.
