Minneapolis — After walking the first two hitters in the fifth inning, Tigers left-hander Matthew Boyd left a scoreless game against the Twins on Tuesday because of a left oblique spasm.
First pitching coach Chris Bosio came out, then manager Ron Gardenhire and head athletic trainer Doug Teter hustled out. Boyd was visibly frustrated when he walked off the field, though there was no indication of what was bothering him.
Boyd had uncharacteristically walked four batters, including the lead-off hitter in the third, fourth and fifth innings. He had given up just one hit, an infield single to Logan Morrison, on a ball third baseman Niko Goodrum double-clutched before throwing late to first.
