Tigers' Matthew Boyd doesn't think oblique spasm is serious

MINNEAPOLIS -- Matthew Boyd didn't want to leave Tuesday's game and seemed confident that he wouldn't miss his next start.

The Detroit Tigers left-hander noticed a twitch or spasm in his left oblique in the fifth inning.

Pitching coach Chris Bosio visited the mound after seeing a peculiarity in Boyd's delivery and then summoned manager Ron Gardenhire and head athletic trainer Doug Teter.

Gardenhire quickly made the decision to remove Boyd.

"We said, 'There's no way we're going to leave you out there. Let's get him off the field and see how he feels tomorrow,'" Gardenhire said.
