DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers will interview Miami Marlins third base coach Fredi Gonzalez in its search for a new manager.
MLB.com first reported that the Tigers had sought permission to speak to Gonzalez. The Athletic reported that the interview would be Thursday.
Tigers general manager Al Avila interviewed internal candidates over the weekend in Minnesota. He said other candidates are in a holding pattern while their teams are in the playoffs.
The Marlins' season is over, however, meaning Gonzalez is available to talk immediately.
Gonzalez, 53, has previously managed the Marlins (2007-2010) and Atlanta Braves (2011-2016).
