Given the benefit of hindsight, McClendon should have been the Tigers' choice to succeed Leyland
There are the favorites in the Detroit Tigers’ managerial search, led by Fredi Gonzalez and Ron Gardenhire, the assumed managers of the future being looked at, like Dave Martinez, Alex Cora and Joe McEwing, and any number of others that general manager Al Avila wants to interview for the position this month.
And then there is Lloyd McClendon.
McClendon, the Tigers’ hitting coach for the past season and a baseball lifer with a bevy of experience, is considered a serious candidate for the job.
