DETROIT -- The search for the 39th manager in Detroit Tigers history is effectively under way.
It might take almost 39 days for it to be complete.
That's the time between now and Nov. 2, the day after the World Series. If the Tigers have a sought-after candidate coaching into November, they'll be willing to wait.
Tigers general manager Al Avila didn't reveal much about his plans for the search, but he did say this: It might take a while.
"We're going to do a lot of thorough background work and we'll have a good list of names that we'll whittle down little by little," he said.
