MINNEAPOLIS -- Don Kelly retired from playing in March and was at the Detroit Tigers' complex in Lakeland the next day, preparing for the next step in his career.
He auditioned with the Tigers in 2017, serving as a scout-in-training and roving instructor.
On Friday, the Tigers announced that Kelly and two others would be joining the club's full-time scouting staff.
Kelly, 37, played parts of nine seasons in the big leagues, including six with the Tigers.
Jim Elliott joins the Tigers after spending the seven seasons as a scout with the San Diego Padres.
