There were too many home runs, too many dandy defensive plays and too much experience against the Detroit Tigers this afternoon.
The Kansas City Royals came to Comerica Park in the thick of the American League postseason race, beat up on rookie right-hander Artie Lewicki and eventually squeaked out a 7-6 win.
And then there is this: With the loss, the Tigers have fallen at least 21 games under .500 since the final day of the 2003 season, in which they tied an AL record with 119 losses.
That historical perspective comes four days after they officially became a rebuilding team.
