SEATTLE -- An awful road trip in an awful month of an increasingly dismal season may have hit a new low on Wednesday night.
Starter Justin Verlander lost a perfect game in the sixth inning and the Detroit Tigers squandered a four-run lead, falling to the Seattle Mariners 7-5 at Safeco Field.
The Tigers have now lost five games in a row for the first time since Aug. 12, 2016. They're seven games under .500 for the first time since 2015, when they finished 74-87.
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead on James Paxton while Verlander cruised through five innings.
