Tigers' Justin Verlander loses perfect game on bunt hit in 6th

SEATTLE -- Justin Verlander has retired the first 16 batters he faced Wednesday night at Safeco Field, but Seattle Mariners Jarrod Dyson finally broke his spell.

Dyson laid down a perfectly placed bunt down the first base line to reach base on a single, breaking up Verlander's bid for a perfect game and a no-hitter in the sixth inning.

Verlander still can aim for a shutout. He already has 10 strikeouts, tying a season-high set on Opening Day, April 4 in Chicago.

The Detroit Tigers, who are trying to snap a four-game losing streak, were leading the Mariners 4-0 in the sixth.
