PITTSBURGH -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton knew that Don Baylor had been sick, but he was still taken aback by the news that the baseball legend passed away on Monday.
Baylor, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2003, was 68 years old.
Don Baylor, the 1979 American League MVP, died Monday of cancer. He was 68.
"I just remember coming to the cage every day and he had a smile on his face," said Upton, who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011 and 2012 when Baylor was the hitting coach. "He was just happy to be at a ballpark.
