Cleveland – Detroit Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann left Wednesday night’s game in the first inning after he was struck on the right side of his face by a line drive from the Indians’ Jason Kipnis.
It was Zimmermann’s seventh pitch, a 91-mph fastball, and it left Kipnis’ bat at 105.6 mph. It struck Zimmermann directly and he fell to the ground.
After being tended to by trainer Doug Teeter, Zimmermann got up and walked off on his own power. He didn’t appear to be bleeding but a lump was visible.
Left-hander Daniel Norris replaced him.
