Tigers' Jeff Ferrell responsive, alert after taking line drive off head

It’s the scariest sight in baseball.

A pitcher taking a line drive off the head at around 100 m.p.h.

“There’s no question,” Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. “A line drive to the head is about as scary as it gets in the game.”

Late in Monday night’s 8-3 loss to the Athletics, right-hander Jeff Ferrell was struck by a line drive off the bat of Ryon Healy. The ball hit Ferrell in the head and though he was dazed in his first steps off the mound, he walked off the field under his own power.
