DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers reliever Jeff Ferrell will undergo a precautionary CT scan after being struck in the head by a line drive, but initial indications are that he was not seriously injured.
Ferrell was hit on the side of the head by a 102 mph line drive off the bat of Oakland Athletics designated hitter Ryon Healy on Monday night. The ball bounced all the way past first base after it struck Ferrell.
Ferrell started running toward the dugout, where he was met by manager Brad Aumsus and two athletic trainers, who quickly took him off the field.
