The Detroit Tigers announced today that they have invited 18 players to major league spring training in Lakeland, Fla.
Among the invited prospects are right-handed pitcher Joe Jimenez, left-handed pitcher Kevin Ziomek, catcher Kade Scivicque, infielders Dominic Ficociello and JaCoby Jones and outfielders Mike Gerber and Jason Krizan.
“Ziomek, he’s certainly earned it,” assistant general manager David Chadd said. “He’s led the Midwest League and the Florida State League in strikeouts the last two years.
“Joe Jimenez has had a good year, good couple years, actually. Ficociello had a strong year last year. He had a good fall league.
