MESA, Ariz. -- The triple to the gap struck by Kody Eaves on Tuesday afternoon at Sloan Park neatly encapsulated all the strides he has been trying to make at the plate in the last year.
Hit with more power (check) while cutting back on strikeouts (check) and improving against lefties (check) while taking the ball to the opposite field (check).
The left-handed hitting Eaves smacked the ball to right-center against Red Sox southpaw Henry Owens, then dove headfirst into third base ahead of the thrown. He scored a few moments later, helping to fuel a victory for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League.
