Tigers hang on to sweep Reds in short series

Detroit — Pretty eventful afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Tigers were cruising into the seventh inning with a 6-0 lead and by the end had to hang on for dear life, escaping with a 7-4 win.

They were on their third reliever of the day after starter Mike Fiers took a liner off his left shin in the second inning when Alex Wilson entered. Drew VerHagen (three innings) and Daniel Stumpf (one) posted zeroes.

This was not Wilson's day. He had allowed just one run in his previous 11 innings, but he faced five batters in the seventh and didn’t get any of them out.
