Willie Horton Day is Sunday.
For the 12th straight year, the state of Michigan will recognize one man's ability to fight adversity and achieve success when the former Detroit Tigers great is celebrated.
He's the fourth person in Michigan history to get a day, following Rosa Parks.
Sunday is Horton's 73rd birthday. Horton, who serves as a special assistant to Tigers general manager Al Avila, first received a statewide honorary day in 2004 for his humanitarian efforts in the city and the state.
He works with Don Bosco Hall to host the Batting for Kids event at Comerica Park for youths to display their throwing, batting, and base-running skills on the field.
