The Detroit Tigers made general manager Al Avila available to the media before tonight's series opener against the Chicago White Sox.
There was no big news to reveal – no declaration of an impending fire sale or any announcement of a roster move – just Avila giving the current state of his below-.500 team, which sits three games out in the American League Central division with the calendar now flipped to June.
Avila didn’t say much – perhaps he missed the local media or just wanted to let the world know about his early-afternoon workout, a run from Comerica Park to the Detroit River and back – but he did reiterate he thinks the Tigers are a team in win-now mode and that, despite public pressure to move on from this core group of players, he feels they have the players to make a postseason run this season.
