CHICAGO – Brad Ausmus is not a lame-duck manager.
Not in Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila’s mind. Not with a team option for 2017 in his contract. No way, Avila said.
“That doesn’t exist in baseball,” Avila said. “That might exist in politics, a lame-duck president or a lame-duck governor, because you can’t create policy when you’re on your way out. Well, nobody’s saying Brad is on his way out.”
Avila said there have not been contract extension talks with Ausmus, and he doesn’t expect there will be until after the season.
“No, not at this point,” Avila said.
