MINNEAPOLIS — One down, likely one to go.
The Detroit Tigers acquired right-handed reliever Nolan Blackwood from the Athletics on Saturday afternoon as the first of two potential players-to-be-named-later as part of the Mike Fiers trade on Aug. 6.
Blackwood, 23, is a sidearmer whose fastball clocks in the low-90s, according to one rival talent evaluator who has seen him.
Blackwood is in his third minor league season after being drafted in the 14th round by the A’s in 2016. This season, he has posted a 4.08 ERA and 1.434 WHIP in 39 appearances with Double-A Midland and was named a Texas League All-Star.
