Tigers get A- from Bowden for offseason moves

The Tigers received a grade of A-minus for their offseason moves to date by Jim Bowden of ESPN.

The Tigers acquired starting pitchers Jordan Zimmermann and Mike Pelfrey, closer Francisco Rodriguez, relievers Mark Lowe and Justin Wilson, outfielder Cameron Maybin and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

The centerpiece of the transactions is Zimmermann, a free agent from the Nationals whom the Tigers signed for five years and $110 million.

"Tigers GM Al Avila told me when the Tigers entered the offseason that his goal was to acquire two starters, two relievers and an outfielder," Bowden says. "This was not an easy goal for a team that already had a $180 million payroll, one of the highest in the sport.
