It's not about picking sides, the Detroit Tigers say.
It's not about going all-in with analytics and neglecting the scouting side of things, and it's not about copy-catting other organizations that have embraced the numbers and statistics in baseball to varying degrees of success.
"The real point of it," Tigers director of baseball operations Sam Menzin said, "is combining data from your scouts, medical staff and player development staff, as well as the performance and melding that together."
The analytical side of the game was spoken about at the team's season-ending meeting with reporters this month, and the Tigers' front office shed some light on how it will embrace today's ever-increasing information in the future.
