Chicago — The snow started falling in the third inning Thursday — barely noticeable at first, but incessant, and then the flakes gradually got larger and for three-plus hours never really stopped. The temperatures dropped from 43 degrees to 35.
Once again, the Tigers played a baseball game in sub-optimal conditions.
But there is fight in this dog. A lot of fight.
Down 7-4 in the top of the ninth, the Tigers rallied for three runs off Joakim Soria to send the game to extra innings. And they scored twice more in the 10th — Mikie Mahtook singled and scored and Jeimer Candelario singled in an insurance run — sending the Tigers to a gritty, 9-7 victory and spoiling the Chicago White Sox home opener.
