NEW YORK -- Having hit the fewest amount of homers among all 30 clubs this season, the Tigers may not have been the most likely contender to outslug MLB's most powerful lineup, but on Thursday night, Detroit put its power on full display in the series opener at Yankee Stadium.
Jeimer Candelario quickly put the Tigers on the board in the first inning with his second career leadoff blast off Yankees starter J.A. Happ. In the third, the Yanks took a 2-1 lead when Giancarlo Stanton hit his 300th career homer to right field.
