In the bottom of the fifth inning in tonight’s Cleveland Indians-Detroit Tigers game, Victor Martinez did something he has never done before and likely may never do again: He bunted for a base hit.
With the Indians defense in their customary extreme shift against Martinez, with three infielders on the right side of the infield and the third base side wide open, Martinez punched a high Trevor Bauer fastball down the third base line.
It was Martinez’s first bunt hit of his career, spanning 1,757 games, according to STATS, Inc.
