TORONTO -- Detroit Tigers reliever Daniel Stumpf arrived in the visitors' clubhouse at Rogers Centre after a chauffeured trip from the airport just two hours before game time.
A couple of teammates jokingly serenaded him with a greeting: "Spider monkey!"
A lot has happened while Stumpf was on an injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo, and that doesn't even include the Tigers' now-ended 11-game losing streak.
When Stumpf left, Chris Bosio was still pitching coach.
Bosio was fired last week for using insensitive language to a team employee. He told USA Today that he used the term "spider monkey" to refer to Stumpf in a conversation that was overheard by an African-American clubhouse attendant.
