Tigers claim 2 players off waivers from Reds, Blue Jays

The Detroit Tigers claimed two players off waivers on Friday, taking advantage of a league-wide round of postseason roster trimming.

Infielder/outfielder Brandon Dixon was claimed from the Cincinnati Reds and left-handed reliever Jose Fernandez was claimed from the Toronto Blue Jays. Both players made their Major League debut in 2018.

Friday was the deadline for teams to reinstate players 60-day disabled list. Several teams had to waive players in order to create space on the 40-man roster. The Tigers' two moves were among several claims processed Friday.

Dixon, 26, was drafted by Reds in the third round in 2013 out of the University of Arizona.
