Tigers change course, sending Daniel Norris to bullpen instead of Toledo

CHICAGO -- The Detroit Tigers have reversed course, opting to send left-hander Daniel Norris to the bullpen instead of Toledo.

The Tigers chose instead to option right-handed reliever Warwick Saupold to Triple-A Toledo to create a roster spot for Mike Fiers, who was activated from the 10-day disabled list and will start on Sunday.

The Tigers have said resolutely throughout the spring that Norris is a starter and that a relief role was not being considered.

But Norris' sterling outing on Thursday may have changed some minds. He struck out six batters in 3 1/3 innings, looking comfortable in a long relief role.
