DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers catcher James McCann felt a pull in his ribs when he threw down to second base in the fifth inning.
The throw was successful, but McCann felt a shortness of breath that left him concerned.
He got checked out by an athletic trainer, and two innings later was out of the game. The official diagnosis was a left-sided intercostal spasm.
McCann is slated to start Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader, which he thinks should give him enough time to recover.
"That's my plan," he said.
The Tigers will reevaluate McCann on Monday morning.
