Tigers can't play spoiler in opener, falling to Brewers in front of sell-out crowd

MILWAUKEE -- It might not be the way they envisioned it, but the Detroit Tigers are playing meaningful baseball in September in front of loud, sell-out crowds amid a playoff atmosphere.

Dawel Lugo hit a game-tying, pinch-hit home run for the Tigers, but the Milwaukee Brewers rallied back to win the series opener 6-5 Friday night at Miller Park.

With two games left in the regular season, the Brewers (93-67) have already clinched a wild-card berth but they remain one game behind the Chicago Cubs for the National League Central Division title. The Tigers (64-96) are trying to play spoiler.
