On Monday afternoon, the Tigers designated the veteran infielder for assignment and called up right-hander Dustin Molleken from Triple-A Toledo to help out in the bullpen.
Molleken wasn’t on the 40-man roster, so the Tigers had to clear space. McGehee, just called up over the weekend, was the casualty after getting just a single at-bat for Detroit.
Molleken, little-known in the Tigers system, gets the call over Double-A phenom Joe Jimenez, who hasn’t allowed an earned run since last summer.
Molleken, 31, has appeared in 23 games (four starts) for the Mud Hens this season, with a 3.
