DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers recalled left-handed reliever Josh Smoker from Triple-A Toledo before Sunday's game.
Smoker takes the roster spot of Ryan Carpenter, who was optioned to Toledo after his start on Saturday night.
The Tigers claimed Smoker on waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates last month. He has struck out 10 and walked three in 9 1/3 innings during his stint with the Mud Hens.
Smoker, 29, is on his fourth organization of his career and the third in 2018. He was originally selected in the first round of the 2007 draft by the Washington Nationals.
