DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers will select the contact of right-handed pitcher Drew VerHagen to start Game 1 of Monday's day-night doubleheader against the New York Yankees.
The Tigers will also recall right-hander Sandy Baez from Double-A Erie to serve as the 26th man for the two games. He will be available out of the bullpen.
To make room for VerHagen, the Tigers optioned reliever Johnny Barbato to Triple-A Toledo.
VerHagen was designated for assignment earlier this year and sent to Toledo after clearing waivers. He is now back on the Tigers' 40-man roster and back in the big leagues.
