Tigers boost postseason hunt in Cleveland finale

CLEVELAND -- The Tigers used home runs by Justin Upton and J.D. Martinez to avoid the sweep and keep the Indians from trimming their magic number in the American League Central with a 9-5 win over the host Tribe at Progressive Field on Sunday.

Detroit assured that it would at least hold its place three games outside the AL Wild Card hunt, pending the outcome of the Blue Jays' game in Anaheim, while Cleveland's magic number held at seven for clinching its first division title in nine years.
