Michael Fulmer got his first Opening Day on Friday at Comerica Park, pitching six scoreless innings but got a no decision as the Tigers held on, 6-5.
Opening Day has long been a tradition, and almost a holiday, in the city of Detroit and it showed with the sellout crowd.
Fulmer wasn’t shaken by the large crowd and picked up right where he left off in 2016 with a sparkling outing. The Tigers’ second-year pitcher held the Red Sox to just four hits while striking out four.
The usually-hot Red Sox (2-1) offense was stymied by Tigers pitching through seven innings, but they peppered the bullpen for five runs in the eighth.
