Tigers avoid being swept in Baltimore

Baltimore

— The Tigers went all big-bang theory in the finale against the Orioles Sunday and avoided being swept for the third time in the last four series.

With two outs in the eighth, against side-winding right-hander Darren O’Day who had only allowed one homer all season, J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera hit back-to-back home runs to help the Tigers get a much-needed and hard-fought 6-5 win.

Both home runs came on fastballs from O’Day. Martinez’s came on a 3-2 pitch after he had checked his swing on the 2-2 pitch.

The Orioles dugout was furious with the call from first base umpire Mark Wegner.
