NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Blaine Hardy will be the No. 2 left-handed reliever in the bullpen, now that the Tigers have acquired power lefty Justin Wilson from the Yankees on Wednesday for two pitching prospects.
“When you look at a big-league bullpen, there’s two types of lefties,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. “There’s a No. 1 lefty and a No. 2 lefty. And Blaine Hardy has done an excellent job for two years in a row. We see him more as the second lefty. It’s not a knock on him. We just think he plays better — and can be more successful —as the second lefty.
