The Detroit Tigers announced on Monday that the club has agreed to terms with righthanded pitcher Casey Mize from Auburn University, the first overall selection in the 2018 Major League Baseball Player Draft.
In 17 starts for Auburn this year, Mize was 10-6 with a 3.30 ERA (114.2IP/42ER). The 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior racked up 156 strikeouts with 12.24 strikeouts per nine innings and a 0.87 WHIP, leading the Southeastern Conference in all three categories. He also ranked second in the SEC with 16 walks allowed and 1.26 walks allowed per nine innings this season. Mize was named a 2018 first-team All-American by Baseball America and earned first-team All-SEC honors.
