DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have signed veteran catcher Brayan Pena to a minor-league contract, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reported Monday.
Pena, 36, played for the Tigers in 2013.
After playing regularly for the Cincinnati Reds in 2014 and 2015, he's spent most of the last two seasons in the minor leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals.
The native of Cuba began his career with the Atlanta Braves.
Pena will provide the Tigers depth at the position in case of injury or a trade and will compete for a spot at Triple-A Toledo with Derek Norris and Grayson Greiner.
