DETROIT -- Chad Bell's reward for taking one for the team on Wednesday night was a ticket to Toledo.
The Detroit Tigers left-handed reliever was optioned to the Triple-A Mud Hens after he pitched four innings of relief in a 10-2 loss to the New York Yankees.
He was the only reliever used by the Tigers after starter Jordan Zimmermann was knocked out after allowing seven runs in five innings.
"(Bell) saved our guys from some innings," said manager Brad Ausmus. "We were going to take him out after eight and he said he could push through nine.
