PITTSBURGH -- The Detroit Tigers shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates in consecutive games. They did it in games started by their fourth and fifth starters.
Alfredo Simon threw eight shutout innings Wednesday night and Rajai Davis broke a scoreless tie for the second consecutive game as the Tigers earned a 1-0 win over the Pirates.
Simon allowed just two hits -- both singles in the fourth inning -- while throwing eight shutout innings. Shane Greene allowed just three hits in eight shutout innings a night earlier in a 2-0 win for the Tigers. Just like Greene the night before, Simon did not issue a single walk.
