LAKELAND, Fla. — Detroit Tigers catcher Austin Romine has the best view of the pitchers — both the veterans and the prospects.
He has caught some of them and faced others as a batter.
“I see a lot of young guys who are aggressive and will get an opportunity someday,” Romine said.
He caught Matthew Boyd on Monday.
“Boyd was really good,” he said. “A lot of swing-and-misses on his change-up. His slider was gross. A lot of swings. I don’t think anybody touched any of them. Then he snapped a good curveball at the end.
