Even amid an impeachment probe of President Donald Trump, cheering for the Nationals is one thing that unites Washington D.C. (Oct 25) AP
Off-the-field controversies aside, it’s been easy for Detroit sports fans to feel conflicted about this year’s World Series. The Washington Nationals feature a trio of former Tigers pitchers — Fernando Rodney, Anibal Sanchez and Max Scherzer — while the Houston Astros have Justin Verlander in the rotation and ex-Tigers A.J. Hinch (manager) and Don Kelly (first-base coach). But there’s another reason for Detroit to root against the Nationals, who entered Friday up 2-0 in the Series: A Nationals win would strike them from the list of MLB teams with a longer title drought than the Tigers.
